Date Fri, Sep 4
Time 12: 00 PM - 1: 00 PM
Location Zoom

This month's Research Grand Rounds features William S. Weintraub, MD, who will discuss "Big Data, Artificial Intelligence Precision Medicine?"

Dr. Weintraub is Director of Outcomes Research at the MedStar Heart and Vascular Institute and Professor of Medicine at Georgetown University. Over the past 40 years, with continuous peer-reviewed support, he has contributed to translational, outcomes and quality research including large scale registries, randomized clinical trials, comparative effectiveness and contributions in epidemiology, health disparities, health care economics, regulatory science and guidelines development. His research has resulted in >600 publications, including many which have directly influenced clinical practice and health policy.

This clinical and translational research talk, with implications for clinicians and investigators across disciplines, will share Dr. Weintraub’s important work advancing the incorporation of new data sources and types, new methods, and new care constructs to change practice and improve health.

Research Grand Rounds are sponsored by the Georgetown-Howard Universities Center for Clinical and Translational Science (GHUCCTS) and MedStar Health Research Institute (MHRI) to bring together our diverse clinical and research communities to share impactful new research that spans disciplines and stages of translation to improve individual and community health.

The Georgetown University Medical Center (GUMC) Office of the Dean for Research is proud to present the Dean's Seminar Series. This seminar features Peter Tontonoz, MD, PhD, Professor, Pathology & Laboratory Medicine, UCLA Health. Dr. Tontonoz will discuss "New Pathways for Cellular and Systemic Lipid Transport".
This Windows into Translation (WiT) seminar features Jeffrey K. Huang, PhD, Associate Professor in the Department of Biology at the Georgetown University Medical Center. Dr. Huang is also the Deputy Director for the Center for Cell Reprogramming. Dr. Riesenhuber will discuss " Myelin regeneration in multiple sclerosis (MS)".
Jan 22
This month's MHRI-GHUCCTS Monthly Statistical Seminar Series features Dr. Paul Kolm, Associate Director in the Department of Biostatistics and Biomedical Informatics at MedStar Health Research Institute. Dr. Kolm will discuss meta-analysis. Meta-analysis combines the results of several studies to overcome small samples of individual studies and estimate a "true" effect size of some treatment, therapy, etc. There has been a substantial increase in the number of meta-analyses published in the past few years, but many appear to not understand the potential problems of the method and draw incorrect conclusions. We will examine the method, potential problems, and what can and cannot be inferred from the results.
This Duke Clinical Research Institute (DCRI) NIH "Rethinking Clinical Trials" Grand Rounds features Harlan M. Krumholz, MD, SM, Harold H. Hines, Jr. Professor of Medicine and Public Health at Yale University, and Joseph S. Ross, MD, MHS, Professor of Medicine and Public Health at Yale University. Drs. Krumholz and Ross will discuss " Is It Time to Embrace Preprints? A Conversation About the First 18 Months of medRxiv".
