This month's Research Grand Rounds features Dr. Federico Asch, who serves as Director of Cardiovascular Core Laboratories at MedStar Health Research Institute and Professor of Medicine at Georgetown. Dr. Asch will discuss "A collaborative model to answer questions of global interest in cardiac ultrasound: The World Alliance Societies of Echocardiography."

Abstract: Dr. Federico Asch, who serves as Director of Cardiovascular Core Laboratories at MedStar Health Research Institute and Professor of Medicine at Georgetown. His research focuses on advanced cardiovascular imaging to assess cardiac structure and function, valvular heart disease, and therapeutic outcomes of surgical, device and medical therapies in observational and outcomes studies and in clinical trials. With his collaborators, he has pioneered the application of cloud data sharing and artificial intelligence methods to echocardiography to facilitate collaborative research which would not have been feasible by classical methods. His talk will focus on leveraging one such collaboration, an international network to assess echocardiographic normal variables across diverse populations, to address clinically important diagnostic and prognostic questions in the care of patients with SARS-CoV-2 infection.

Research Grand Rounds are sponsored by the Georgetown-Howard Universities Center for Clinical and Translational Science (GHUCCTS) and MedStar Health Research Institute to bring together our diverse clinical and research communities to share research that spans disciplines and stages of translation to improve individual and community health.
