Preeclampsia and Pregnancy Complications: How Research Can Help Keep Moms and Babies Safe

This month's GHUCCTS in the Virtual Community (GITVC) event will focus on GHUCCTS in the (Virtual) Community aims to promote clinical research awareness, diversity in research, and community-engaged research through virtual outreach efforts that will be held monthly. Our May session will cover "Preeclampsia and Pregnancy Complications: How Research Can Help Keep Moms and Babies Safe".

Join us during Preeclampsia Awareness Month to learn more about the disease and what researchers have learned about the social and health effects on women.

Guest Speakers:

  • Tamika Auguste, MD, is a board-certified Obstetrician and Gynecologist at MedStar Washington Hospital Center. She also serves as chair of Ob/Gyn Clinical Practice Council at MedStar Health. Dr. Auguste’s clinical interests include cesarean sections, contraception, larger surgical gynecologic procedures.
  • Emily Cramer, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor and Interim Assistant Chair at Howard University. She studies how affordances of computer-mediated communication technologies shape human interaction and compel action—ways new media can be used strategically to bring about positive change in communities, particularly in the realm of health.
  • Angela Thomas, DrPH, MPH, MBA, serves as Vice President of Healthcare Delivery Research for MedStar Health. She leads a team of health delivery experts that lead, implement, and evaluate data-driven solutions that support policies and programs that improve healthcare in a manner that integrates science with the clinical and operational expertise required to meet patient and community needs.
