Grant Writing 101: Winning NIH Grants

Date Wed, Feb 24
Time 12: 00 PM - 2: 00 PM
Location Zoom

This workshop, hosted by the GHUCCTS Education team, features Dr. Antonio Sastre, Principal at Sastre Consulting LLC. This event is open to junior faculty at any of our GHUCCTS institutions. Registration is required.

During his 30-year research career, he has received peer-reviewed funding from NIH, NSF, AHA, DoE, and the DoD PRMRP. In 2007 he joined the NIH, first as Scientific Review Officer at the Center for Scientific Review (CSR); then joined the National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering (NIBIB), where at his retirement in 2017, was the Acting Deputy Director of Extramural Programs and Program Director.

An Introduction to the NIH & Winning NIH Grants: Getting funded by NIH requires an understanding of NIH interests and priorities. Which Institute within the NIH is best for your work, and how do you identify the Institute(s) best aligned with your interests? How do you identify the right Study Section for your grant?  How do you craft award-winning applications? That is a skill that can be learned. This presentation will provide answers to those questions, and a discussion into honing and targeting your grant application and shows to its best advantage in Peer Review Panels and in post-review Program evaluations.
