Guest Speaker: Angela D. Thomas, DrPH, MPH, MBA
Dr. Thomas is Vice President for Healthcare Delivery Research at MedStar Health Research Institute (MHRI) and executive lead for the Safe Babies Safe Moms (SBSM) initiative. At MHRI, she leads multidisciplinary and multi-institutional teams to develop, implement, evaluate, refine, and disseminate impactful and sustainable data-driven solutions to improve healthcare quality, safety,
and outcomes by integrating scientific, clinical, and operational perspectives to meet patient and community needs.
SBSM introduced an integrated care continuum model with more than 70 evidence-based interventions in 47 categories across the five timepoints of preconception, prenatal, delivery, postpartum, and early infancy health care. This talk will provide an overview of the structure and implementation of SBSM in Washington DC and progress on its key clinical and process metrics. As well, Dr. Thomas will discuss future directions for expanded implementation and dissemination of this approach across, DC, Maryland, and beyond.
