Clinical and Translational Research Grand Rounds: “Optimizing Long-Term Health in Childhood Cancer Survivors: From Observation to Intervention”

Date Fri, Dec 6
Time 12: 00 PM - 1: 00 PM
Location Virtual via Zoom

Speaker: Nina S. Kadan-Lottick, MD, MSPH

Dr. Kadan-Lottick is Professor of Oncology and Pediatrics and Directs the Survivorship Research Initiative at the Georgetown Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center. She is a practicing pediatric hematologist-oncologist, clinical trialist, and NCI-supported investigator focused on improving medical, cognitive, and psychosocial long-term outcomes for children, adolescents, and young adults with cancer across the lifespan by developing, assessing and implementing chemoprotectant, health behavior, and multilevel healthcare delivery interventions. Despite high cure rates for childhood cancer, most survivors develop chronic health conditions as unintended consequences of their curative therapies, resulting in considerable morbidity and early mortality.  Beyond benefit to childhood cancer survivors, this research may provide many insights on meeting the long-term health care needs of survivors of other severe illnesses of childhood such as prematurity, sickle cell disease, and cystic fibrosis.
