KL2 Scholar Dr. Chukwuemeka Ihemelandu recipient of SSO Clinical Investigator Award

Chukwuemeka Ihemelandu, GHUCCTS KL2 scholar and Assistant Professor of Surgical Oncology at Georgetown University Medical Center, is the recipient of the 2021-2023 Clinical Investigator Award for Under-Represented Black, Indigenous People of Color (BIPOC) Surgeons from the Society of Surgical Oncology (SSO).

GHUCCTS is pleased to announce our 2021-2022 GHUCCTS Pilot Awards application cycle. Applicants must have a full-time faculty appointment at one of the GHUCCTS institutions (Howard, Georgetown, DCVA, Medstar, ORNL). Each application should identify a Contact PI who will be responsible for coordinating and submitting the application. Applications are due Monday, April 19, 2021.

Dr. Veronica Thomas co-authors textbook, named 2021 "Most Promising New Textbook" by TAA

The Textbook & Academic Authors Association (TAA) recently announced the recipients of their 2021 Textbook Awards. "Evaluation in Today's World:  Respecting Diversity, Improving Quality, and Promoting Usability", co-authored by GHUCCTS Evaluation & Continuous Improvement Director Dr. Veronica Thomas, was one of ten textbooks to receive the "Most Promising New Textbook" award.

This month's Research Grand Rounds features James N. Baraniuk, MD, Professor of Medicine at Georgetown University. Dr. Baraniuk will discuss "Modeling Exertional Exhaustion in Gulf War Illness (GWI) and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS)".

This seminar is part of the GHUCCTS KL2 Visiting Scholars Seminar Series. Mario Acunzo, MS, PhD, is an Assistant Professor in the Division of Pulmonary Diseases and Critical Care Medicine at the Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU). Dr. Acunzo will discuss "Emerging Roles of microRNAs in Cancer".
This month's MHRI-GHUCCTS Monthly Statistical Seminar Series features Christian Boxley, Senior Research Associate at MedStar Health National Center for Human Factors in Healthcare. Christian will discuss "The Tableau Basics: How to Visualize COVID-19 Surveillance Data".
