Take Your Time: Dealing with Trauma Using Mindfulness Approaches During the Pandemic and Beyond

Join Dr. Abyssinia Washington and Dr. Mary Ann Dutton for an engaging talk about the impact of trauma on wellness. Learn evidence-based approaches for reducing the effects of stress on health and well-being. Practice how to exercise protective measures using mindfulness techniques to restore and regain as sense of empowerment for resilience in dealing with encounters of racial trauma and toxic stress.

Abyssinia ‘Aby’ Washington, PsyD is the Director for Well-being and Clinical Practice at the KVC Institute for Health Systems Innovation. She has over a decade of experience working with clients who have experienced family dysfunction, trauma, abuse, sudden loss, crime victimization, natural disasters, and legal challenges.

Mary Ann Dutton, Ph.D. is a Professor and Vice-Chair for Research in the Department of Psychiatry, Georgetown University Medical Center and Co-Director of the Community Engagement and Research core of the Georgetown Howard Universities Center for Clinical and Translational Science. Dr. Dutton’s research focuses on trauma and mental health. She has received numerous federal grants for longitudinal studies, randomized behavioral clinical trials involving mindfulness and telehealth interventions. Dr. Dutton has also focused on immigrant women’s use civil protection orders and trauma-informed legal advocacy. Dr. Dutton teaches Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction. Dr. Dutton is the author of numerous scientific journal articles and books.


Take Time Thursdays with the Anacostia Community Museum gives participants a chance to take time for wellness, health, and creativity with artists, thought leaders, performers, wellness practitioners and others. Take a 30-minute break with us from 2:30 - 3:00 p.m. each Thursday and boost your mind, body and spirit.
